As you view the photos, keep in mind they are copied from an historical document that was published in 1945.
The following Divisional Pictures were taken enroute to Bremerton in April, 1944 and text refers to that period.
Jim Bruno was part of the Aviation Division, aboard USS New Jersey, in 1945. He sent in the five photos you see below. We want to thank Jim for his contribution and the time he spent describing the photos.
Gary Frazier is the Grandson of Vernon Dee Griffin and contributed the two photos above. Thank you Gary.
Alton Wesley Fisher was a machinist on on the Aft Guns, during this period. Bill Linton is his step-son and found these pictures for us. Thanks, Bill.
Dotty Miller is the daughter of Emerson Miller, one of the WW II vets who served aboard USS New Jersey. In honor of her father, she provided the photos above.
Ed, I am attaching some photos of my Father-in-Law Arthur Albert Smith and his
best friend John Edward Thompson who both served on the BB-62 during WWII.
These were taken in Italy during 1944. I wanted to share them with everyone.
These two fine men remained best friends for over 50 years. They met each
other in the Navy. If you have any questions please let me know.

Ed,
I stumbled on this wonderful USS New Jersey site
tonight.
My Dad, Loye Elliott was a marine serving
aboard the USS New Jersey. He has a number of wonderful photographs from his
days aboard the ship. The first is the entire photo. The last is a blown
up version of the Marine unit. My father had circled his head.
I can ask my father again but my recollection is that there
were a number of shipmates who were recently assigned to the ship and had
not served in the war. The photo is dated April 20, 1946. My father has the
framed original. He is now 82 years old. His time in service was began in
1944. He served in the Japanese corridor.
Thank you all for all
of your hard work on this wonderful site. I consider it a privilege to share
some of my Dad's photographs with you.

I have attached two
pictures I had of my grandfather, Jack Lyndon Rayle, I believe these were
taken during his time with the USS New Jersey.
In the Long Beach picture.
Jack is in the middle, and the other picture Jack is on the end with the curly
hair. and the little guy fishing is my son Jack.
I don't know how, but do
you think my grandfather's pictures could be posted to the USS New Jersey
website and maybe someone who knows Jack will recognize these pictures.
I also have a $2 dollar bill with signatures of some of the men my grandfather
served with. The names I can make out are Earl Curtis, Robert
Donnely, Eddie Smith, Robert Krantz, Kid Tuney, Elmer Mose, George
Tate, and Clyde Homlman. I think this is so neat. I just want to thank
you both for how nice and responsive you have been to me.
Mr. Welch, I sent an email
to Dawson Todd, I would love to know how to get a copy of the the war log of
the USS New Jersey. That would be so awesome. You know I am already talking to
my husband about a summer trip to DC an NJ. I would love to set
foot on the worlds most decorated war ship! It would be such an honor.
and to have my little Jack step on a ship that holds the start of my family,
it would be so great. .
